one design catamaran Ventilo 27, 1997
Specifications

The aim of this design was to create a cat that was bigger than the famous Ventilo 20' of Gino Morelli, but sailable by three to four crew instead of two while still being fun and easy to handle. The increase in size had to be constrained to take into account the complications (winches, etc) normally associated with boats around 30ft long.

We kept to a relatively low budget by staying monotype through strict standardisation of the components and by relocating some of the subcontracted work*. Despite these budget constraints, the all-up weight of 400kg combined with a downwind sail area of approximately 117m2 still offers very exciting rides.

Four units were launched by March 2003 and the best results to date have been third (Cadence) and fourth (Zen) places overall at the Bol d'Or 2003.

* The hulls and appendages were built in the Czech Republic, while Marstrøm Spars delivered the mast and the tubes for the rigs, and Ventilo assembled the platforms near Lausanne (SUI).
