As regular consultant for this project, our contribution of this winter has focused on the design of a brand new "hull", or of what remains as a hull : minimalist, ultra-light and adapted float to the light air of the Leman lake, it must help to take-off and on the other hand, also be voluminous and stable enough to make up for recovering a conventional surfing mode when the foils are beyond of flying, like downwind in the choppy waves, by working "classically", that is surfing without pitchpoling.

More details and pictures on the dedicated portfolio page...

Intended for scratch time regattas and easy day-sailing with reduced crew. To regain pure pleasure of sailing ! Only pure pleasure of sailing fast, without "prises de tête" with so complicated compensed time and numerous crew organisations anymore !

Intention was to build a prototype this summer, but the echo is so resounding back that we are currently studying the faisability of building five units in a row for the next season (2011).

All the detailed features are described in the brochures to be downloaded from the following links, but as summary, the main axis are :

> A particular care on the design : functional, efficient, economical and with positive view to the future trend (no melancholy of the past ! ).

> Having fun on the water, by sailing fast in real time, and forgetting the complications and the frustrations of the compensated time rating rules.

> A box rule is created in the same time, named "Lem 33", that could also accept similar existing boats for a class ranking in conventional races like the Geneva lake Bol d'Or for example.

> Easy to sail either solo or with a small crew thanks to the extraodinary stability provided by the canting keel.

> Research of the maximum simplicity of usage : fitting, equipement, etc.

> Research of the maximum simplicity of assembling, handling and transportation, so that unprofessional crews could trail the boat easily behind a "conventional" car. As well as the facility to ship within a 40’ container, to ease the logistics for international transport.

> Integrated inboard engine.

> Very simple accommodations (day boat).

After having won the 70-boat fleet South American Championship 2009 (30 th Nov. 2009), Flavio Marazzi and Enrico De Maria took the second place of the Star world championship that took place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (January 2010), between Iain Percy (1st) and Torben Grael (3rd).

On the picture we could note the running backstays attachements that are located aft of the helmsman, which allows the crew complete freedom of longitudinal positioning for optimum balance, and reduces compression in the spar.

After taking the European title in 2007 and fifth place at the 2008 Olympics in Qingdao – winning one of the 11 races – the Swiss duo of Flavio Marazzi and Enrico De Maria is another top team to have joined our Star ‘family’, the latest recruits being Greek skipper Aimilios Papathanasiou and German Robert Stanjek who will sail Wilke Stars for the next major championships.
