Bol d'or 2010 and 11 victories in a row..

For the 10th successive time the Bol d’Or saw a Séb Schmidt-designed boat cross the finish line in pole position. Ladycat won a comfortable victory, beating all categories, at Lake Geneva’s prestigious annual event, which took place on 12 and 13 June 2010.

This run of successes started in 2000 with the victory of Alinghi 42, which went on to defend its title in 2001, 2002 and 2003. Then, from 2004 onwards, the D35s took over the winning mantle.

An innovative new hull for the foiler Mirabaud LX

As regular consultant for this project, our contribution this winter has been the design of a brand-new ‘hull’, or rather what remains of a hull. This minimalist, ultra-light float, adapted for the light airs of Lake Geneva, must encourage lift-off yet also be voluminous and stable enough to allow conventional planing performance when foiling is not practical or advantageous such as when sailing downwind in difficult waves – in which case the hull must perform successfully and resist pitchpoling.

Launch of the Psaros 33' high-performance one-design project

Intended for line honours regattas and easy day-sailing with reduced crew, this yacht is designed to recapture the sheer pleasure of sailing! Just the exhilaration of sailing fast, without the headache of complicated handicapping systems and the need to recruit a large crew!

The aim was to build a prototype this summer, but the response has been so positive that we are currently studying the feasability of building five units in a row in time for next season (2011).

> A design that is functional, efficient, economical and ultra-modern (no harking back to the past!).

> Focus on having fun on the water, by sailing fast in real time and forgetting the complications and frustrations of time-allowance rating rules.

> A box rule (Lem 33) has been created at the same time, which can also accommodate similar existing boats for a class ranking in conventional races such as Lake Geneva’s Bol d’Or.

>> Easy to sail either solo or with a small crew thanks to the extraordinary stability provided by the canting keel.

> Simple-to-use fittings, equipment and so on.

> Couldn’t be simpler to assemble, handle and transport – it is easily trailerable behind a car, plus fits in a 40’ container for shipping.

> Integrated inboard engine.

> The very simple accommodation of a day boat.

Luthi 8.70 : a 13th unit in build and the class recognised...

The 13th unit is on order for 2010 and is currently being built at Olivier Lüthi’s shipyard.

Meanwhile, an owners’ association has been created along with statutes, class rules and a proper championship! Alain Hofer is its first president and the class will from now on be recognised by the ACVL on Lake Geneva.

mOcean becomes the official boat for Swiss Match-Race Tour 2009-2013

After the successful launch and introductory tour of the prototype during the 2008 season, the central committee of Swiss Sailing has confirmed the mOcean 26' as the official boat for the Swiss Match-Race Tour for 2009 to 2013.

Construction of the first six units began in early January 2009 in Sweden. All plugs are fully 3D milled by Volvo.
